Nirmatrelvir is an orally available antiretroviral (ARV) 3C-like protease inhibitor. It is co-administered with ritonavir, which is a HIV protease inhibitor, significantly considered in this context to boost/enhance the potency of nirmatrelvir. Nirmatrelvir-ritonavir does not require adjustment in those with hepatic impairment. Caution should be imposed when prescribed in those pre-existing liver conditions, liver enzyme abnormalities or hepatitis. This medicinal product should not be used in those with advanced liver disease.
